American
political parties nowadays can’t avoid the migration issues to their country.
Nowadays, Hispanic, Latin and Afro-American people are minorities sectors on
the American population and at this rate, minorities will become majorities.
This is the main reason why Democrats are focusing on having a good relation
with this ethnical groups, and it can be confirmed with the last political
survey on USA: the ratio preference for the Democratic Party of Latin voters is
3:1 against the rival party.
Even though
for this minorities groups, the migration issue is not the most important,
because they focus more on the economic issue, for the Democratic Party, migration
is on the top 3 of their priorities issues on agenda. Mainly, because of this,
the minority ethnical groups (mainly Latin American people9 prefers this party.
Nowadays
the best strategy that the Democratic Party have for getting in touch with the
minorities groups is a plan called “Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and
Immigration Modernization Act”,
this plans mainly stands for the irregular workers, with any granted right, to become
a worker with a legal and recognized status for USA, and later, have a
reasonable chance of acquiring the legal USA Citizenship.
This strategy could sound
repetitive, but Democrats propose this, because (as I wrote) they attack two strategic
points on the minority-USA relationship: They give boost for a growing economy
in the USA (minority mainly interest) and they regularize the migration status
of a almost 1/3 of population in USA.
Another good point of this initiative
is that includes all kind of socioeconomic sectors of the migration people to
the USA: it propose special visas for the entrepreneurs, visas for the
low-skill temporary workers and even special visas for master degree students,
maybe so many kinds of visas sounds like a more burocratic paperwork but the
democratic party, with this proposal wants to pay more attention of the immigrant
needs in order to understand what they want/need and gaining more followers.
Democratic Party is also
innovating in the way the want to know the immigrants and want to get a legal
citizenship in the USA, they´re trying to give legal citizenship to immigrants,
not because they labor force, they want to take in account their family
relation, history, professional skills and social participation in American
territory, such a like the Adopting a points-based immigration system in UK and Canada.
This party is
gaining migrant followers because Democratic wants to understand the minorities
needs and with that information they want to take actions, for most of Americans
this is offensive because they say that their own government is giving extra
attention to people that are no Americans but, the truth is that at this rate
American citizens by born will be a minority in their own country, so is a good
action plan to start including immigrants into the political agenda.
Good work, but does the DREAM act concern the current Latino Vote? People who are illegally in US or even haven't moved to US yet cannot vote. So you see this as a very long term strategy, say for 2020?
